Every year Dr. Wayne Dyer has been having weekend seminars on Maui. Basically a Maui Seminar retreat where, for a weekend in October, you’ll get to hear Dr. Wayne Dyer and other speakers, like Ram Dass, talk about improving yourself as a person and spiritually.

The 2009 Maui Seminar, titled ‘Excuses Begone,’ is on October 23 – October 25th at the The Westin Maui Resort & Spa. (It’s not one of those camping retreats where you are holed up in a remote location of the island, but who’s complaining?)

It’s an abridged version of the 2008 Maui Seminar where most of the interactive stuff was edited out but you are still left with seven and a half hours of inspiring and thought provoking content.

The 2009 Excuses Begone! Maui Seminar looks to be a winner if it’s anything like what is found on the CD. The seminar & book looks into eliminating the excuses that we give ourselves when faced with the desire to be in a better place, from “I’m too shy” to “ I can’t afford it.”

‘Excuses Begone!’ is, in my opinion, a combination of two of my favorite self help books written by him, ‘The Power of Intention’ and ‘Manifesting Your Destiny.’ He also throws in elements from his other two most recent books, ‘Inspiration’ and ‘Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life,’ and you have what amounts to a Tour De Force for Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Yes, I am hyping this up a lot, and you may be wondering if I will be going to Dr. Wayne Dyer’s Maui Seminar in 2009. The answer is No. What’s my “excuse?”

I first read “There is a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem” about 3 years ago and the way I look at my daily existance has never been the same since. I have actually read this book several times and continue to read it periodically because I find something new everytime I read it.

Basically this book is about the lies we tell ourselves and how we got to the point where we firmly believe these lies. [...]]]> The book was a quick read and kept my attention. You may not have heard of this author Don Miguel Ruiz or this book The Voice of Knowledge but it’s quite moving.

Basically this book is about the lies we tell ourselves and how we got to the point where we firmly believe these lies. Don Miguel Ruiz has an intresting take on the Adam and Eve story from the Bible. His take is that the apple that was eaten from the tree of knowledge represents the ego centric content that we eat up to form our identity. This content that we gather over the years from our family, freinds, peers, the media, etc. tends to limit us.

If this theme sounds a little familiar like some other books out there, it is to an extent. What is different about this book is that it focuses on how we get to a state where we trust the “lies” and not our true self versus other books that discuss the this point among many others.

The transformation that too many of us take from being a young child full of bewilderment, and enthusiasm to an adult full of anxiety has always facinated me. This book helped me understand how that transformation happens and what to do about it. If you find that you like this book you also might like another book that he wrote called The Four Agreements.
