5 Stars Another Piece of Great Art to Learn from Eckhart Tolle
It is so strange to read these mixed reviews.

For me, just when I thought Eckhart Tolle’s words could not get any better (after reading A New Earth & The Power of Now), this is one that helped me learn about the couple questions I have in my head about spiritual “teaching”. I am not a health practitioner or a therapist. However, I am always inspired to become a guided meditation “teacher” (but nothing to teach really) some day. This helps me out so much!

Others are entitled to have their own opinions and I fully respect it.

For me, this set of CDs worked beautifully well with these pauses in the middle. He gave us the “pointer” and then there is the space (the pause) right there for us to go beyond thoughts. How beautiful is that (I say to myself).

I understand people’s frustrations on Eckhart Tolle’s teaching and in all these books, tapes, CDs, DVDs. His words either points our soul to go straight to Nirvana (the NOW and that is it … no more conceptual thinking of enlightenment or the idea of Nirvana) or you try to analyze his words too much (particularly this CD set) and then lost in the thinking forest without a guiding light.

When one of my friends was in turmoil, I gave her “The Power of Now” and told her that was the best thing to help me out, her feedback to me was that Eckhart Tolle’s teaching was too abstract and too deep that she couldn’t understand it. I was not offended at all.

However, I learned something here! It is just that one needs to beware that Eckhart Tolle’s “Way” is NOT the only way and different people are drawn to the different “teachers”/”authors” they need at the time for personal/professional/spiritual growth. That was a big “Aha” moment for me when I listened to this set of CDs.

Also, I do not think everyone is ready for Eckhart Tolle’s teaching because it requires two conditions to make his words work for us. Condition #1 is that we suffered enough in our head to realize fully (body, mind, heart & soul) that we want to let go of the egoic mind dominated thinking and suffering is optional. Condition #2 is the willingness of not analyzing Eckhart Tolle’s teaching in our head but instead, just feel the words in the bottom of our hearts. Condition #2 is most essential to get any benefit out of Eckhart Tolle’s work.

That is why Eckhart Tolle mentioned before that some people are “not ready” for the more gentle, peaceful self yet. Please beware that “Not Ready” is not judging. It is simply a fact that the “mind” is not ready to give up its control yet. No more …

I don’t recommend beginner of Presence to start off with this set of CDs because it most likely will get one more confused. I suggest “Power of Now” or “A New Earth” first if you were going to ask me for suggestions.

That is all I have to say. You can agree, or disagree to my words. They are just words, which words are always fragmented serving as labels. The most important thing is whether you can find inner peace and serenity for yourself and maybe for others if they choose to join you.

2 Stars It is as it is.
This is a typical Tolle CD. He doesn’t come across well by recorded voice, whereas his DVD’s are better at transmitting the essence of presence.

It is about “practicing presence” as the title says. However, he does not go into details about how to teach this to others except through living example. Tolle even makes a joke of the fact that he isn’t “teaching” a method or technique. A classic non-dual evasion of responsibility.

Basically, it’s an okay set if you know presence (which is scintillating ever-nowness) but even then, why bother? It’s not worth it if you want some concrete suggestions to help others awaken.

4 Stars A new dimension in therapy
Very useful lecture. As a psychotherapist I am now more confident with situations, where I dont know what to do, what to say. I leave space and somehow answers come…It works. On the other hand I see, that there is no need to mistify such people as Tolle ( somehow superficial knowledge about analytical therapies). Anyway: great wisdom, new aproach, fresh look, “evidence based” work.

3 Stars Practicing Presence
This set of CD’s would be more suited as a DVD. There are several long pauses, mostly in the first and last CD. Since the listener cannot see Tolle’s “presence” we are sometimes not sure what is happening.

This set is worthwhile, but I would recommend “Through the Open Door” as Eckhart’s best CD.

Again…I recommend this book to those you might know that could learn from it…I know of many personally. I sincerely enjoyed the attributes concerning “pain bodies”..wonderful and helpful. READ IT!!

3 Stars Eye opening
I’ve dillydallied with many a self-help books and I like this but I’m skeptical of anything that Oprah endorses because it becomes so mainstream and fadish. Tolle’s book is interesting and he explain a lot of things about life that most people already know such as treat others how you want to be treated, live in the moment, accept what life brings, and don’t limit yourself to labels. I like that he includes advice for parents such as pay attention to your children, allow them to be, and try to overlook the ego and painbody in them and that we as parents can’t protect them from all suffering.

I don’t know that human consciousness is going through some grand transformation, I hope so but I don’t know that and neither does he. He doesn’t include much practical advice, practical as in how to practice living enlightened. He’s created a business much like other people and I don’t know what he is doing with the money generated from his book sales, dvds, cds on meditation, downloads, seminars, etc., but it’d be interesting to know.

The book has a simple message live in the now, the only moment there is. It makes sense and is easier said than done. So for now I’m staying on my antidepressant because I still have to be a parent and function enough for that.

5 Stars Excellent reference Worth reading at least once
I have read many commentries on Geeta. Few Budthism books as well. I know there is nothing more I need to learn by reading more books. Still I thought I should explore this one. This is very good if you do not believe God as such. I just read an pathetic review on this. Just read yourself with open mind. You will surely benefit. Do not go by some useless reviews on this one. Read when in trouble. Otherwise you can not appreciate the analysis. I can say every sentence is true. Better then Budhism books which just give common sense (right view/right thoughs….) All tell key principle “Control your mind.” If you do not be controlled. It is a monster ready for a ride on you always. never gets tired. It is my personal experiece. This books at least urges you not to be a poor donkey throughout your life, but a rider.

William Weil’s New Earth Relationships is a gift. This could help save a lot of people from a lot of heartache. From study, soul-searching, and experience the author has acquired much wisdom and practical knowledge on the art of communicating with one’s partner. Bill Weil and I have different spiritual understandings of the world — I am not a “new age” subscriber at all. But despite that being the case, I really benefited from this book. A lot. I was a communications major in college (before becoming a professional comedian), and I think this kind of interpersonal communication should be taught in schools. I love the analogy about the pitching and catching in conversation, and not just a back and forth like ping pong – brilliant!

5 Stars the clearest most lucid book on this topic This is an outstanding book and easier to grasp than “The Power of Now”. Its a desert Island keeper and has helped me immensly in understanding my mind/thought/emotion/pattern dance and how to create happier moments, a happier life. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

5 Stars Beyond the Wake-Up call
Kim Eng’s excellent two-CD set is a fine compliment to Eckhart Tolle’s written or televised teachings. Eckhart seems to cover a great deal in his works, including the subjects on this CD set, but in a literary manner that I often interpret in my own, comfortable way. Kim can take me right to my pain-body in her meditation on that subject. Her voice really suits this work, as others have noted. There is a selection called ‘A meditation for entering sleep consciously’ which is truly wonderfull; I emerge from sleep feeling refreshed and more aware after listening to this the night before.

This is very usefull stuff: a dozen guided meditations plus informative introductions by Eckhart Tolle and Kim Eng. If you’ve been reading a lot and have a lot of words buzzing arround in your head, take a break and catch this buzz – you’ll bee here now!!

5 Stars Good for Beginning Meditators…and Others
Although I have been practicing meditation for decades, I still find it helpful to listen to guided meditations occassionally, and have a number of instructive CDs by various teachers. This CD set is an excellent addition to my library, one I will return to often.

First of all, Kim Eng has the perfect voice for guided meditation. It is smooth, calm yet alert; she articulates each word with fluidity, effortlessly, and uses pauses naturally with perfect timing. Often meditation speakers attempt to be too slow or too relaxed; not so here. Ms. Eng is a gifted speaker.

The material presented is extensive. The “meditation on the breath” is the foundation of Ms. Eng’s meditation techniques and is a common meditative method. Preceded by brief introductions by Ms. Eng and Eckhart Tolle, this is the first one on CD #1. This guided meditation is mostly helpful for ‘beginner level’ meditators, or those who have been using a different meditative technique (such as mantra, conceptual, chanting, etc.). Next, Kim guides one effectively and thoroughly through an “inner body meditation,” which will be helpful to beginners as well as more experienced meditators. Unique to Eckhart Tolle’s teaching is Ms. Eng’s “a meditation for dissolving the pain body.” As Tolle readers know, the pain body is a unique and important concept of his teachings and something that many have grappled with for understanding. My only criticism with Ms. Eng’s presentation is here, where she attempts to explain Tolle’s teaching on this subject; her attempt feels slightly awkward. But that doesn’t impact or spoil the meditation in any major way, and listeners/meditators will no doubt find this meditation useful in expanding upon their understanding of the concept.

There are ten mini-meditations that one can use on the fly day in and day out and are extremely helpful. The meditation on nature is wonderful, and will help the listener/meditator experience the outdoors in new ways.

This is a very worthwhile CD set, especially for the beginning meditator, and those who are Eckhart Tolle devotees. Even the experienced meditator will find material of value herein.

5 Stars really GREW on me
Being a huge fan of Eckhart, his philosophy, his books, CDs, etc., I decided to try Kim Eng’s “Meditations For a New Earth” CD set. In the beginning, Kim’s inflections took some time to adjust to, but soon enough I found myself playing her CD every night while laying in bed before sleep. I have yet to reach the end of either of her CDs before … ZZZZzzzz

While falling asleep is not the intended purpose of meditation CDs, and hardly constitutes “meditation,” I find that I sleep better and wake up more relaxed when I fall asleep to one.

I have also played them on occasion when doing housework or other activities, and I like the awareness I am absorbing about how any daily activity can become a “meditation” when you bring Presence to whatever you are doing. Anything that brings more Presence to life, is, in my opinion, worth its weight in gold.

I intend to use her CDs for more formal meditation sessions (sitting upright without distraction) as well as driving in my car. I highly recommend them.

4 Stars Good Basic Meditation Info
I did enjoy this two CD set, but maybe I was expecting something else. For one thing, when I imported it into iTunes, I cannot find it. The tracks were not named, so I am struggling to find it on my iPod. That really took me for a loop. I am contacting Sounds True to see if they have any suggestions. I know that sounds a bit whiney, but if I cannot find the selections, then how can I enjoy them fully?

When I did listen to it through my computer, I truly enjoyed Kim Eng’s voice and she has a lovely way of guiding you through the basics of meditation. There was no music, just her voice as it guided you. Just so you know

Overall, I was left wanting a bit more. Maybe if they had tied it in with Eckhart’s info from A New Earth and then had each meditation go along with it tighter it would have flowed together more. Maybe it is MY not understanding how it worked together, but I can only review what I got from the CDs.

Excellent introduction by Eckhart Tolle, really spends 10-15 minutes breaking down his concept of meditation that sets the tone for Kim Eng.

She has a voice that is soft yet easy to follow. The meditations promote stillness and the variety allows me to select different types of meditations to experience a freshness that produces great quality. The first of many to follow.

In his books, he describes negative energy as the pain body.  Tolle explains that we often find ourselves clinging to an identity and that identity can come in many forms, such as a  role  or an  idea.    For example, if you identify your self as being a devout member of a religious institution you may feel pain when that institution is questioned or criticized.  Tolle’s ideas or observations have really resonated with me and obviously millions of others with his special on Oprah.  

I hope that Tolle’s other readers have had more success then I have with controlling the pain body. 

A couple of weeks ago I found myself cruising through news websites in search for something to make me upset (feed the pain body) and was not disappointed.  I came across an article on one of the major news network sites that had a picture of Oprah on it it with the question “Is Oprah starting her own cult”.  I like Oprah, and by the title alone this looked like an article that would make me angry so I read on.  I will not go into too much detail but the jist of it was that Oprah was making so much money already and now she has teamed up with this guru to make more money selling this “new age”  non sense. 

In addition to inferring Oprah has some sinister money making plan the author went after Tolle.  The author pointed out that Tolle’s education credentials can not be easily verified.  Everyone knows that someone who give spiritual guidance or promotes ideas about inner peace should have the right college credits.  Anyways it was an article that had an obvious negative tone to it.

I found myself getting very upset with what this person was saying in the article.  In my mind I was outlining a multiple bullet point response to this injustice.  I found myself being offended and angry at the end of the article.  I took down the authors name so I can look up more articles that he wrote and see if there are additional opinions out there that I find upsetting.  Then I can write up a blog or perhaps a web page just to counter his and other like minded peoples attacks.  I was looking for a comments section of the article so I could pile on with all of the other Tolle/Oprah defenders.

Then I saw what I was doing and found the irony in my reaction. 

In the end I am grateful not only for this article but other mediums of negative energy that helped me find great books by Tolle, Dyer, and others. Because without all this extreme negative energy I would not have gotten the momentum to seek out the positive alternatives out there.   

One year ago I got so addicted to watching 24 hour cable news that the only solution that worked for me is to to disconnect the cable, which in my neighborhood means no tv channels at all.  The negativity that compounded brought me to a breaking point where I had to do something drastic, (drastic for me anyways) and it has given me part of my life back.  The author of the anti Oprah/Tolle article and other pain bodies like him have done a great service in pushing people to seek positive change.
