Question by janie: please help..I am full of anger and worry and doubt and it is crushing me..I feel awful most of the time.?
*I have had a really hard life./.for 15 years not one day did not contain a problems often several and many severe..mI was clinically depressed and suicidal everyday and battled it (due to the antidepressants drugs it seems)..it got slightly better for a while..in the last 4 months, it is one tragedy ad loss after another..I can barely take it. I am feeling worried, very angry at all the people who hurt me so badly, fearful, feeling like a failure (something I never felt before) etc. I find it so hard to think of things to be thankful and grateful for. I feel like I am in a deep hoe and can’t get out..I want to think positive as I just learned of law of attraction..now I wonder ..did I cause all this bad stuff to happen tome…or is it God, bad luck, or what..

I find I keep reverting back to thinking negative and feeling negative emotions..how can I break out and do better and think positive habitually and feel good emotions..it is such an ingrained habit..
please help as I have been hurt by almost everyone..only my dad always loved me (he is deceased 25 years..mom just died)..I do have a brother and kids who love me some but they fail me a lot..I need help for not letting this stuff get to me and for finding my way to God..I am uncertain how to have a relationship but am saved. I feel He is far away. I want to be happy again..at age under 21 I was so cheery and happy now I am habitually thinking bad and am not even aware of it..my son started stopping me one day and made me say 10 positive reversals of very negative statement and he was stopping me nearly every minute..I did not realize how negative I thought. a doctor who is into natural meds recently told me I talk violently towards myself. I was shocked as I did not think this but I think she meant in negative terms and she recommended the book nonviolent communications for me..but..what can I do to help myself..I have been in counseling for over 15 years and get zero benefit
except the benefit of talking to someone which always helps. I refuse to take antidepressants as the SSRI ones caused this continual suicidal ideation and an MAO inhibitor threw me into the hospital..I now have a phobia and refusal to take medical drugs but am pen to alternative treatment’s..how can I change my life and thinking and also banish this licking my wounds and hating and feeling gypped because I am treated so badly…I am a highly sensitive and empathetic person..by nature..also high IQ..(not that that helps) .told I am very nice and kind by hundreds…told by some I am very special and have a heart of gold and am uniquely kind and highly insightful..but I am feeling like cursed that I was ever born to be frank. Help please as I feel desperate how can I change the way I think and I dwell on everything obsessively and think too much and can’t let things go as well
also wanted to say how much I appreciate th people on this ite who have been so helpful for some many questions for so long..bless all of you so much and thank you to all who have ever helped me

Best answer:

Answer by Answer Fairy
If you had zero benefit from your therapy, then you would be dead. So you should count the fact that despite your difficult life, you are still alive.

Don’t forget about gratitude. I had a tough time changing my thoughts, too. I put a sign above my bed that says THANK YOU is big bold letters. It’s the first thing I see when I wake up. I posted positive affirmations all over my computer at work, just to remind myself to think positive thoughts. I also make it a point to do something nice for myself every single day. Whether it’s a bubble bath, paint my toes, make myself a nice dinner…..

You have to keep going to therapy.

Pause for a moment. What were the thoughts running through your head just now? How did that thought make you feel?

It is very important that we realize the relationship between our thoughts and the way we feel. Did you know that we are constantly thinking? Take breathing for example. Unless we feel that we are running out of breath, we simply forget that we breathe automatically.

Thinking works the same way. Since we are always doing it, it is easy to forget that it is happening. To think is to create. Everything starts in the mind. What precedes the feeling of anger? Angry thoughts precede anger. Have you tried getting mad without having any thoughts first? Try to feel sad when you don’t have any sad thoughts. It is just impossible! In order to experience a feeling, we must first have the thought that induces that feeling. Happiness cannot exist alone. It is the result of positive thinking. This simple awareness is the first step in putting us back on the path to find happiness.

We should never underestimate the power of a simple thought. It may seem so innocent and fleeting; yet, it has energy that can cause great impact on our mind, body, and emotions.

Let us think of a lemon. Imagine cutting it in half and smelling it. Now, think about squeezing the juice from the lemon into your mouth and feel those pulp bits bursting inside. Most of us will surely feel our salivary glands responding to the thought of lemon.

Indeed, what we are thinking can greatly influence our emotions. Think of someone you love. What do you feel? Now think of someone you hate. What do you feel? We do not have to consciously change our emotions – change our thoughts and our emotions will follow immediately . Notice that when we focus our minds on positive things, we feel better, whereas when think negative thoughts, we feel bad. Positive thoughts yield positive results. These thoughts make us more loving and caring, resulting to good health, wealth, and happiness. On the other hand, negative thoughts produce negative results. These types of thoughts result to indifference, disease, fear and misery, etc. In other words, our thoughts create our reality. So be aware of what you’re thinking. The next time you feel a little low, stop and consider what you were thinking to trigger that feeling and change the direction of your thoughts accordingly. It’s not going to happen immediately but with practice, we can control the direction our thoughts take.

Wouldn’t it be great if we can have good thoughts throughout the day?

However, that is just not possible, is it? The negative thoughts have a way of slipping in unnoticed throughout the day. Like cancer, negative thinking can kill! It can destroy and kill our whole future. Negative thoughts affect the mind, body, and emotions.

Our thoughts produce our feelings. We get angry by having angry thoughts. It is impossible to feel sad without sad thoughts. Unhappiness does not and cannot exist on its own. Unhappiness is the feeling that accompanies negative thinking. So how do we prevail against the negative thoughts in our heads? Stop thinking about them! Our negative feelings are results of our own negative thinking. Apart from refraining to think about negative thoughts, we can turn negative thoughts into positive ones.

One effective technique is to learn a whole new set of happy words. These words evoke positive feelings. Other studies refer to these as “Positive Adjectives List” from The Apache Method (The Antidotal Positive Adjectives Character and Happiness Enhancement Method).

According to this particular study, which is based on Emmet Velton’s classic paper, “There has been a body of research empirically validating our ability to positively or negatively change our moods by reading phrases like “I feel very good” or “I am afraid.”

So, how do we go about dislodging thoughts of unhappiness?

1.	Be aware. We have to catch ourselves when we are about to indulge in negative thinking. In the first few days, we have to be very vigilant.

2.	The moment we feel the onset of an unpleasant emotion, we have to identify it as precisely as possible. Is it hatred? Hurt? Fear? Anxiety? Discontent? This is a very critical component of the process as related to the next step.

3.	Search for the exact opposite of the negative emotion. Think of its antonym. For example, the moment we catch ourselves feeling “lazy,” we would call to mind an opposite adjective like ‘energetic.’ We would then say to ourselves, ‘I feel energetic. ‘ If we consider ourselves as “pessimistic”, we say “I am hopeful. ” If we see ourselves as “incompetent’, we say “I feel ingenious.” What do we say if we see ourselves as “unmindful”? We say, “I am grateful. ” Can we use the same method even if we are not feeling anything unpleasant? Of course! We are encouraged to think and say to ourselves statements like ‘I feel fabulous’ to reinforce our mood, or statements like ‘I feel strong’ or ‘I feel friendly’ in order to enhance our character. Other people have their own versions of this same technique. Others say it aloud in front of the mirror every morning for ten minutes for twenty-one days. Saying it out loud makes it more effective as there is an emotional involvement. This is no different from expressing positive affirmations and doing self-talk. Others find it more effective by writing the statements on paper, as they become more “physically” involved.

Try it out. It doesn’t matter which way you choose to use. The important thing is to be aware of the direction your thoughts are taking and change it. You’ll see a brighter, more positive you emerge and well on your way to finding the secret to happiness.

Heart diseases, kidney problems and hypertension are just one of the few diseases that you would get when you fill yourself up with too much negative emotion. Surely, you would never want that to happen right? Here are a few steps on how you could actually deal those negative emotions from ruining your life.

Slowly close your eyes. Take a deep breath slowly for a couple of minutes or two. Have you calm yourself down? If yes, imagine there is a wall in front of you. You are standing right in front of that wall. That is your “wall of frustration” or “wall of pain and fear”. That wall symbolizes your anger, your fear, worries, frustration and all those negative feelings you are possibly into right now.

As you imagine that wall as your “wall of frustration”, imagine that you are pushing that wall. Feel your arms, your fingers, shoulder react to that wall. Let that wall absorb your negative feelings. Let that wall take away those fears and frustrations that you are facing right now.

As you push that wall, picture that particular event that made you feel that negative emotion that is filling you right now. It could be because you got fired from work, a jerk boss, a broken relationship. That very particular reason why you are feeling exactly what you are right now.

And then let that wall absorb these emotions totally until you feel yourselves emotion calms down, relieved and expire. Once you feel this, imagine that you are walking pass that wall. And by doing so, you have gotten totally rid of your negative emotions. You will feel relieved and relax shortly right after.

Fishing is another way by which you can release all those negative emotions from you. As an expert in stress management, I always encourage my clients to go out for activities that would help them relieve stress like fishing. When I go out for fishing trips, I always use my favorite Quantum Baitcasting Reel. I usually buy Quantum Baitcasting Reels for all my fishing escapades. Their great. You will appreciate the soothing effect you will get from fishing when you use this reels.

5 Stars One I wanted to hear right through as soon as I hit “Play”
This book may epitomise Wayne Dyer’s entertaining style of wrapping wisdom in anecdotes which are sometimes funny, sometimes moving and certainly compelling listening.

I wanted to hear it right through in the one afternoon, and once again only days after the first playing, which is unusual for me. If it was a book, you would call it a “page turner”.

It hangs together well despite being a very varied collection of observations and stories, and it really transported me to a somewhat better place while I was listening to it. (Which was handy at the time!)

As we say in Australia, a darn good yarn.

5 Stars Awakened as in Early Morning
I have read and listened to quite a few of Dwayne’s books and tapes and I have to say that this one is the best that I have gone through (I haven’t read the “Erroneous Zones” though). But really, maybe it just hit me at this particular moment, but it started really speaking to me. Very good ideas, they are comforting in a way, yes, but also challenging, at least for all of you who have been driving your lives seeking the ultimate success and did not find it there at the top. Well, good job Dwayne!

4 Stars A Wayne Dyer fan …
I am! A Wayne Dyer fan, but I am only rating this 4 because I feel it is more a summary of all his general thinking, nothing new. But as alway a great product from Wayne Dyer.

5 Stars You NEED THIS BOOK!
I’ve listened to a great many self-help books from Louise Hay’s classic “You can heal your life”, to Caroline Myss, medical intuitive, to Deepak Chopra. This is by far the best. I loaned it from my local library and decided I had to have it to listen to again and again. Concepts and ideas to living the “purposeful” life and to solving life’s so-called problems. I am ordering the cassette version of this book today! If you’ve ever wondered about your life’s journey and how you are supposed to live, and what the meaning of life is, get this audio book! You will definitely enjoy Wayne’s upbeat, excited, and personally motivating book. Also, his voice is comforting, soothing, friendly and never condescending.

4 Stars Dr. Dyer
Great for listening in the car. Feel it has had a positive impact on my everyday life.

Following in the footsteps of Dr. Wayne Dyer’s first children’s book, the bestseller Incredible You! this work goes even further toward expressing Wayne’s positive message for children. In Unstoppable Me! Dr. Dyer teaches children how to hold on to the no-limit thinking he believes they were born with, rather than just trying to “fit in.” In doing so, they can learn to truly enjoy life and become unstoppable as they strive to attain their dreams.

The 10 important lessons in this book include the value of taking risks, dealing with stress and anxiety, and learning to enjoy each moment. Each point includes an example showing how a child might apply the concept in his or her everyday life. Similar to Incredible You! there are questions at the end of the book to help spark discussion and to further reinforce Wayne’s message.

5 Stars Fabulous for kids and adults
I loved this book. It outlines all the key factors of success in easy, positive, language with clear and fun examples. For adults like me who don’t want to take the time to sit down and read self help books-it’s also a good summary! A must for every parent and child. It is non-religious-so shouldn’t offend anyone.

I received Unstoppable Me and Angry Octopus on the same day. The pricipals in Unstoppable Me of making choices, being persistent, and self value are easy for children to grasp. I found myself looking for concrete answers to the questions the author poses: Can you think of things to do when you are sad? When you are worried or scared? And, What can you do to help your anger go away and feel peaceful inside? Luckily for me and my child Angry Octopus offered a surprise follow up response and an actual relaxation technique we were able to immediately apply to these thought provoking questions. These two books together are powerful. I applaud these authors for helping children learn to manage such complicated emotions. http://www.amazon.com/Angry-Octopus-Relaxation-Indigo-Dreams/dp/0978778170/ref=pd_sim_b_3

Pause for a moment. What were you thinking about a moment ago? How did that thought make you feel?

It is very important that we realize the relationship between our thoughts and the way we feel. Did you know that we are constantly thinking? Take breathing for example. Unless we feel that we are running out of breath, we simply forget that we breathe automatically.

Thinking works the same way. Since we are always doing it, it is easy to forget that it is happening. To think is to create. Everything starts in the mind. What precedes the feeling of anger? Angry thoughts precede anger. Have you tried getting angry without having angry thoughts first? Try feeling sad without sad thoughts. It is impossible!

In order to experience a feeling, we must first have the thought that induces that feeling. Happiness cannot exist alone. To find happiness, It is the result of positive thinking. This simple awareness is the first step in putting us back on the path towards happiness.

We should never underestimate the power of a simple thought. It may seem so innocent and fleeting; yet, it has energy that can cause great impact on our mind, body, and emotions.

Let us think of a lemon. Imagine cutting it in half and smelling it. Now, imagine squeezing the juice from the lemon into your mouth and feel those pulp bits bursting inside your mouth. Most of us will surely feel our salivary glands responding to the thought of lemon.

Indeed, what we are thinking can greatly influence our emotions. Think of someone you love. What do you feel? Now think of someone you hate. What do you feel? We do not have to change our emotions consciously – just change our thoughts and our emotions will immediately follow.

Notice that when we focus our minds on positive things, we feel better, whereas when our thoughts are focused on the negative, we feel bad.

So be aware of your thoughts – that is the secret to happiness. The next time you feeling a little low, pause and consider what you were thinking to trigger that feeling and change it accordingly. It’s not going to happen immediately but with practice, we can control the direction our thoughts take.

Wouldn’t it be great if we can have good thoughts throughout the day?

If you have children, then you have dreams for them. You want to see them growing up happy, healthy, self-reliant, and confident in themselves and their abilities. But if you’re a typical parent, you’ve wondered if you’ll be able to give them all this. There’s good news: you can.

Wayne W. Dyer shares the wisdom and guidance that have already helped millions of readers take charge of their lives — showing how to make all your hopes for your children come true. You will learn:

the seven simple secrets for building your child’s self-esteem every day.

how to give very young children all the love they need — without spoiling them.

how to encourage risk-taking — without fear of failure.

action strategies for dealing with your own anger — and your child’s.

the right way (and the wrong way) to improve your child’s behavior.

the secrets of raising kids relatively free of illness.

techniques that encourage children to enjoy life.

It’s all here — straightforward, commonsense advice that no parent can afford to do without.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Parenting is not easy!
Wayne Dyer has brought his widsom and wit to the hard process of parenting with this inspiring but daunting how-to designed to raise “no-limit” children. Sadly, it’s discouraging to realize the amount of hard work, discipline and self-control that are required from parents to pull off this challenging protocol for raising kids to be non-blaming, empathetic and self-confident adults. The main precepts tend to be repeated many times, but that’s helpful for learning things well. As you might expect, there are plenty of helpful self-improvement tips for adults, who must really be exemplary people to follow the child-rearing advice Dyer gives. It would have been nice to have this book much sooner in my parenting career – now, as a grandparent, I’m finding it difficult to convince my daughter that the Dyer approach is workable. Even if you only adopt a few of his ideas, you will be rewarded, I think, with happier and better-adjusted children.

4 Stars From the author of, Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves
As the author of Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves, I find What Do You Really Want for YOur Children to be nice, but not on the leading edge. Wayne Dyer is always full of stories and joy which is inspiring. The book is a fine introduction to being a parent who does not follow the old authoriterian ways. If you are inspired, don’t stop here. Read other, more up to date books.

For example, Wayne speaks in praise of praise, yet, praise is manipulation. It gives the parents control over the child. The parent uses it to attempt to get a child to repeat a good behavior or achievement or control their emotions. If you read Punished by Rewards, or my own articles about praise and my book, you would know that praise is as bad as punishment and actually harms self-esteem and self-reliance.

Although much is missing in this book, it is also a delight to read from a delightful writer and speaker.

5 Stars Quite insightful
Being the father of three children, I enjoyed reading this book. This book helped me to see many of the negative parenting patterns that years of conditioning had created in my ego. The number one thing that I walked away with was the understanding that my children have to make their own lives (with my wife’s and my guidance, of course), and that it is not my place to control them. Wayne also provides ways to help you see yourself and then how to correct any negative traits you possess concerning parenting. While I may not agree 100% with every idea he has regarding parenting, I would say I agree 90% (now that I’ve read it). I have seen many of my fallacies and have seen how they have affected and will affect my children negatively; I have seen how to change those ways also, thanks to this book.

I believe EVERY parent should read this book, and I’ve given it to new parents and have recommended it to others. No matter how old your children are, Wayne has written this book for you, now. It’s never too late to correct your mistakes and help your children grow to be mature, responsible, creative, limitless adults, and Wayne stresses that in this book. I believe you will appreciate it, therefore, I highly recommend it.

5 Stars Every parent or grand parent should read this book
This book opens yours eyes to things we are doing to and around our children that we don’t even know we’re doing. It is definitely a must read for any parent or grand parent

3 Stars not news for a psychology major
i thought this book had good points that would be useful to parents who don’t have psychology background – there are many references to various types of positive reinforcement and conflict resolution that would be helpful.

SUCCESS CAN BE YOURS WITH WAYNE DYER’S HOW TO BE A NO-LIMIT PERSON LIVE LIFE AT FULL THROTTLE

In How to be a No-Limit Person, Dr. Wayne Dyer teaches you how to greet each day with high expectations and a clear sense of direction — not just for the moment, but for an entire lifetime.

As you master his upbeat way of approaching people and problems, you’ll realize that you are in total control of your life. You’ll discover how to tune in to internal signals — your emotions, attitudes and beliefs — to help you deal with everyday frustrations and major problems.
3 Stars How to Be A No Limit Person – Wayne Dyer
Less is not always better, 3 Stars. The original 6 tape version by Nightingale Conant will remain the 5 Star winner. This newer Abridged version leaves out some of Dr. Dyers best counsel and most entertaining passages.

5 Stars Very powerful information
Wayne Dyer has once more produced an excellant program on creating your own reality. This time he addresses perseptions that limit your access to success. How you think about what you want to achieve results in what you achieve. It addresses dealing with obsticles and forming the relationships you have with those around you. It explains concepts in plain straight talk that you can relate too. Its an enjoyable and powerful program and I recommend you buy a copy to ad to your collection. It was and is a good investment.

5 Stars From the author of, Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves
These CDs are an awesome collection of Wayne Dyer’s speaking. I highly recommend it. Wayne blows the whistle on concepts that weaken us and gives clues to being powerful and effective in life. His words resonate with what I teach in parenting through my book, CDs and workshops.

The set is a collection from many talks rather than a single event,
so you get the best of what he said on one theme. Truly inspiring.

2 Stars better now
I like him much better with time. I don’t care for the man’s lectures in his 40′s as much as I do now that he’s in in 60′s.

3 Stars How to be a No Limit Person
Was somewhat disappointed in this lecture by Dr. Dyer. I have purchased many of his audio books and have found them positive and inspirational. This one does make some very good points but this was obviously done quite a number of years ago and I found some of his statements extremely negative. Since then Dr. Dyer has developed a much more positive way of getting his points across.
